Accore Solutions

intelligent thinking for smarter businesses!

New Activities

Posted by accoresolutions on October 30, 2009

For some time now the principals of Accore Solutions have no longer been working on publicly funded business support programmes.  This is largely because public funding has dried up in the areas in which we specialise.

Instead, we have been pursuing our own separate commercial projects in the areas of training, seminars and eSolutions Development.

We take this opportunity to thank all those who it has been our pleasure to work with in the past – and if you would like to discuss commercial projects with us – please do not hesitate to make contact – initially via this site.

Many thanks!

Tumblr

Tumblr

We like blogs – and blogging applications!

From Blogger / Blogspot to WordPress (the basis of this site) to Movable Type and TypePad, we’ve used these and several other blogging applications for various projects we have been involved in – and also just for fun!

An exciting new alternative to the above solutions, which is very easy to use and with an interesting set of features – which continue to grow – is Tumblr.com.

We have been testing Tumblr and are now seeing more and more interesting blogs based on this new free platform.

DabbleDB – a new online database!

Posted by accoresolutions on April 29, 2007

DabbleDB

Here at Accore we have been testing a new online database platform for project management and secure collaboration.

It’s not that often we get really excited about a new (or new to us) application, but we have been very impressed by the interestingly named Dabble.

Although we remain long term fans of Intuit’s Quickbase – we have often lamented that there does not appear to be any real competition. Quickbase also has really moved out of the smaller SME marketplace to concentrate on the corporate workgroup market – which it does very well!

Enter Dabble – which we have been testing – and which we are now starting to use on a couple of projects.

We have been very impressed at how easy to use and powerful this online database is and how responsive the support team is to users questions.

Also, the licensing costs appear to be very reasonable and the functionality very exciting – a true Web 2.0 product!

For more information and to test this application, visit dabbledb.com.

Web 2.0 wave taking hold!

Posted by accoresolutions on April 21, 2007

BBC Web 2.0 Article

Interesting article from the BBC recently outlining the dramatic growth in Web 2.0 applications and the impact that this is having and will have on businesses, individuals and software companies.

There are now some fantastic web applications out there, including the free Google Mail and Google Apps and powerful database applications such as Quickbase for corporate workgroups and the new and exciting DabbleDB.

Exciting times! :-)

Dirty Data Costs!

Posted by accoresolutions on March 4, 2007

 Silicon.com - dirty data article.

A recent article on Silicon.com highlights the costs to businesses and organisations of having inaccurate and incomplete data to work with.

This is something we have been highlighting with our clients for some time. Paradoxically, in our experience it is larger organisations (and, dare we say, often public sector …) who appear to have most difficulty in this area.

Hopefully this will mean continued demand for the data cleaning and database / CRM development services that we can deliver :-)

Further information is available from the Silicon.com article.

More Useful Resources

Posted by accoresolutions on February 25, 2007

We have had a frantic last few months working hard behind the scenes for a variety of clients – large and small.

In that time several interesting tools and resources have come to our notice, but we have not added them to our blog (naughty!) so it is about time we did!

So here goes … :

  • Net Lawman – an excellent online resource for those of us who need to draft contracts for on and offline projects and business relationships.
  • vTiger – a very capable open source CRM (Customer Relationship Management) solution which is fairly straightforward to implement.
  • Zoho – a very promising collection of online tools for communication, collaboration and sharing information with teams – we are testing at the moment.
  • Linux – well proven very stable and capable operating system which is the basis for many ‘distros’ (distributions of Linux with additional software suites). More and more organisations, businesses and individuals are starting to use it instead of or in addition to Windows. Distros well worth checking out include: Ubuntu; OpenSUSE (now owned by Novell); Fedora (from Red Hat); also at the other end of the spectrum tiny but capable distros such as Puppy Linux (ah! ;-) ) and Damn Small Linux make for interesting perusal. And for those who want to run Windows applications on Linux – check out Wine! We are now starting to use Linux more and more.
